Coastal Technologies Corporation Secures Groundbreaking Patent for Coastal Protection and Environmental Resilience Technologies
Long Island, New York — Coastal Technologies Corporation (Coastal), a global leader in innovative environmental protection solutions, proudly announces that the United States Patent and Trademark Office has awarded the company a comprehensive utility patent. This milestone positions Coastal at the forefront of developing technologies designed to safeguard and restore coastlines, ecosystems, and vulnerable infrastructure facing an array of environmental threats, including erosion, landslides, rising sea levels, storms, and marine pollution.
The newly issued patent (US12146284B2) covers a broad spectrum of cutting-edge technologies, including cliff stabilizers, marsh guards, and oyster and mussel reef restoration stacks. These solutions represent fundamental advancements in protecting vulnerable coastal areas while supporting ecological balance and restoration, and Coastal is now receiving orders for deployment in public and private resilience projects.
Nicholas Thatos, CEO of Coastal, said: “As sea levels rise and storms intensify, human lives, communities, and the world’s most critical trade and infrastructure are increasingly at risk. Our mission is to rapidly address these threats, delivering technology that effectively disrupts water and wind forces, while actively encouraging growth and restoration.”
Coastal’s patented units are flexible, resilient, and easy to deploy, offering a versatile solution for diverse environments. A range of solutions that bridge human engineering and natural systems to disperse wave, water, and wind energy, these technologies protect coastlines and critical infrastructure while fostering the growth of ecosystems such as wetlands, waterways, cliffs, beaches, and reefs.
George Thatos, Head of Design at Coastal, said: “Our core engineering is based on wetland biomimicry, leveraging 500 million years of evolutionary design to create solutions that mimic and enhance nature’s resilience. This landmark patent package underscores our commitment to developing scalable and sustainable solutions that solve critical environmental challenges. This intellectual property is not only the cornerstone of our current offerings but also a foundation for our ongoing, active innovation, unlocking nearly limitless variations to solve diverse threats of climate shifts and destructive weather.”
This wide-ranging patent, encompassing 78 pages of detailed documentation with 13 distinct claims and 58 drawing sheets, is the first in an expanding family of intellectual property filings, including a Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) submission securing international protection.
By securing this foundational IP, Coastal aims to unlock licensing opportunities and further develop cutting-edge technologies, while also ensuring robust protection against infringement, both domestically and globally. This initiative reinforces the company’s commitment to long-term innovation and environmental stewardship.
