Simplifying Pump Maintenance: Tsurumi Highlights the Importance of Guide Rail Systems in Lift Stations

As operators continue to prioritize efficiency and uptime in wastewater management, Tsurumi Pump spotlights the vital role that guide rail systems play in pump installations for sewage lift stations and wastewater treatment plants.

When a submersible pump needs to be installed, serviced, or replaced, time is critical. Guide rail systems allow pumps to be connected, lifted, and reinstalled with ease. A guide rail system consists of rails or channels that connect the pump the piping. When the pump is lowered, it slides along the rails and connects to a discharge pipe.

These systems not only streamline maintenance but also reduce the risk of extended downtime. Unlike hard piped installations which can require hours of labor and assembly, a guide rail mounted pump can be lifted out of the sump and reinstalled quickly, allowing systems to be back online faster. Neglecting to use a guiderail when one is needed not only complicates maintenance but can significantly extend downtime, impacting operational efficiency.

“Guide rail systems are especially critical in wet wells or sumps” stated Kevin Boicken, Tsurumi’s Southeast Regional Sales Manager. “For lift stations deeper than 15 feet, we recommend using an immediate guide rail bracket for added stability and smoother pump retrieval.”

Material selection is a key consideration when selecting a guide rail system. Depending on the type of fluid being pumped, rails may be constructed from stainless steel, cast iron, or high-density polyethylene. Corrosive or abrasive liquids demand more durable, chemically resistant materials to ensure longevity and safety.

With over a century of experience driving pump solutions, Tsurumi understands that efficient maintenance isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity. Tsurumi strives to simplify pump installation and maintenance while maximizing reliability in the wastewater treatment industry.
