The Swiss Steel Group introduces UGIMA®-X, the latest generation of high-performance stainless steel machining materials, setting new standards for machining efficiency, productivity enhancement, and process repeatability. Launched earlier this year, this new generation of materials offers substantial benefits, particularly in terms of improved machinability and significantly longer tool life.

Focus on Innovation and Efficiency Enhancement
The development of UGIMA®-X is based on innovative metallurgical optimizations that make the entire machining process more efficient. Through the precise modification of non-metallic inclusions and the targeted introduction of oxides during the melting process, both chip formation and tool wear have been significantly reduced. This leads to improved machinability, longer tool life, and higher repeatability in production.

Material-Specific Benefits for Various Industrial Applications
The new UGIMA®-X materials provide customized solutions for a range of applications that demand the highest efficiency and precision:

  • UGIMA®-X 4021: A martensitic stainless steel designed for mechanical components that require high strength. It is particularly well-suited for applications in the machinery and automotive industries, especially for parts used in highly stressed mechanical systems. Thanks to improved machinability (28% better than conventional grades), it significantly enhances efficiency in the production of high-performance components.
  • UGIMA®-X 4028: This stainless steel offers excellent corrosion resistance and high dimensional accuracy. It is ideal for precision machining applications, such as the production of highly precise parts for the food and medical industries. With optimized machinability (12% better than UGI® 4028), production processes become more efficient, resulting in reduced manufacturing time and costs.
  • UGIMA®-X 4460: A duplex stainless steel, ideal for corrosive environments commonly found in the chemical, shipbuilding, and oil & gas industries. With improved machinability, offering up to a 30% productivity increase compared to standard alloys, UGIMA®-X 4460 significantly boosts efficiency when machining complex parts under extreme conditions.

Maximum Efficiency through Extended Tool Life and Enhanced Repeatability
One of the key advantages of the new UGIMA®-X materials is the significant extension of tool life by up to 50%. This reduces downtime, increases productivity, and lowers operating costs. Furthermore, the materials ensure exceptional repeatability of machining characteristics. This minimizes quality deviations between production batches and contributes to stabilizing the entire manufacturing process.

Long-Term Cost Efficiency through Reduced Production Costs
The extended tool life and improved process stability contribute to more sustainable production. Fewer tool changes and reduced downtime enable higher production efficiency and lower overall operational costs.

Sustainability and the “Green Steel” Option
In addition to their outstanding technical properties, the Swiss Steel Group also offers a more environmentally friendly “Climate+” version of the UGIMA®-X materials. This variant is produced exclusively with electricity from renewable energy sources, such as wind, solar, and hydro power, significantly reducing CO₂ emissions. Companies that aim for sustainable production can achieve their environmental goals while benefiting from the advanced technology of the UGIMA®-X materials.

Conclusion
With the third generation of UGIMA®-X, the Swiss Steel Group sets new benchmarks in stainless steel machining. The significant increase in productivity, extended tool life, and exceptional repeatability make these materials the preferred choice for industries demanding the highest levels of efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
