Atlas Tube Expands Digital Toolset for Engineers and Fabricators
Updates for HSS Connections Hub™ platform help building community leverage the benefits of HSS
CHICAGO (August 7, 2025) — Atlas Tube, a division of Zekelman Industries, today announced the first of several significant expansions to its innovative HSS Connections Hub™, a centralized online platform designed to optimize Hollow Structural Sections (HSS) connection design for structural engineers, steel detailers, and fabricators. As the user base soars past 1,300 registered engineers, the HSS Connections Hub now offers more calculators, visual tools, and typical HSS details to further empower the design and fabrication community with efficient, cost-effective solutions for using HSS.
This update adds nine new HSS connection calculators that address a broad range of both common and complex design scenarios, including three TKYX Shear connections, HSS to HSS Moment Field-Welded, and HSS to HSS Shear Field-Welded. Two new sets of HSS Typical Details include 11 HSS splice connection details and nine unique brace connection details.
The platform, which now features 33 HSS connection calculators and six sets of HSS typical details, is designed to help engineers develop fabrication-friendly, code-compliant HSS connection solutions with precision and speed.

Enhanced HSS vs Wide Flange Comparison Tool
In addition to the HSS Connections Hub updates, Atlas Tube recently updated its popular HSS vs. Wide Flange Comparison Tool. Due to their shape, HSS can support more load with less steel than traditional wide flange beams. The refreshed tool features an enhanced user interface and the ability to compare multiple sizes simultaneously, with results easily shared with members of the project team. By entering a few simple pieces of information, users can quickly determine potential weight and dollar savings by switching to HSS.
